My Friend and I

A poem about Jesus – ‘My friend and I’.  As the song says, “What a friend we have in Jesus, all our sins and griefs to bear!”  It’s a poem about Jesus – ‘My friend and I’ and for me, the truth of the words of this hymn hasn’t changed. Jesus is my friend! This poem is adapted from a poem by Ruthie Fisher, who also loves her Jesus.

“My Friend and I”

I have a friend so precious,
So very dear to me,
He loves me with a tender love,
He loves me faithfully;
I could not live apart from Him,
I love to feel Him near;
And so we walk together,
My Friend and I.

Sometimes I’m felling weary,
He knows when I am weak;
He wants me to lean on Him,
His help I’ll gladly seek;
To lead me in the way of life,
That dispels all my fears;
And so we walk together,
My Friend and I.

He knows how much I love Him,
He knows I love Him well;
But how much He loves me,
My tongue can never tell;
It is an everlasting love
In ever rich supply;
And so we love each other,
My Friend and I.

I tell Him all my sorrows,
I tell Him all my joys,
I tell Him all that pleases me,
I tell Him what annoys;
He tells me what I ought to do,
He tells me what to try;
And so we walk together,
My Friend and I.
