So what is dementia?  Is it just memory loss? Does your love one have Dementia or Alzheimer’s disease? Suffer from memory loss? Are you a family caregiver of someone with memory loss? Do you have caregiver depression?  Do you feel trapped? Then this poem and quote is for you…

What is dementia? – Memory Loss

The poems below describes what dementia is and how it can cause suffering for the carer and care giver.  This page is to encourage you that the light of day always follows after the dark night!

Trapped by Wilma Watson

I try so hard to be good for you
But I keep forgetting what to do
I don’t want to be such a burden to all
Who tenderly care for me lest I fall

Inside I’m crying as I see myself go
Deep in confusion, I really don’t know
How to get out of this deep hole I’m in
I feel trapped and now getting so very thin

“Can anyone help me”, “Where are you?”, I cry
I hate to be left lest alone I die
But maybe dying might be my way out
Of this awful dilemma which I don’t know about
I’ll then be healed of this terrible thing
That has caused me to suffer so deep within

A Carers Reward by Wilma Watson

How I need God’s help to proceed
I don’t like what has come to me
I get frustrated and angry as I see my love one
Change gradually on the inside to become
Someone I don’t recognise at all
Surely this is not my mother who stood so tall

The grief and guilt has taken its toll
And it feels like my life is now on hold
I comfort myself as I’ve come to see
What you sow you reap, it will surely be

Susan Boyle must have shed many tears
Caring for mother through her frail years
Susan now reaps what she has sown
With joy, her singing is well known
She’s an example to all and it gives us a clue
That what we sow, we’ll reap in joy too

Having cared for those who suffer with Alzheimer’s disease and Dementia, I wanted to acknowledge, through poetry, the pain and stress of both the carer and the person who feels trapped.
Remember the light of day always follows after the dark night!

Quote: “He (God) helps us in all our troubles, so that we are able to help others who have all kinds of troubles, using the same help that we ourselves have received from God.” 2 Corinthians 1:4

God loves you and sees your pain.

Watch this short video called, ‘Living Free’ and it will show you how special you are to God and how much He loves you.
